TRIED & TESTED: Davina – 30 Day Fat Burn

February 17, 2017 by Hannah Cox Leave a Comment

After a rather indulgent Christmas, Hannah decided to commit to a workout that would keep her motivated and active throughout a cold and dark January. With Davina – 30 Day Fat Burn you can follow a clear plan for 30 days, which does include rest days! The plan is easy to follow and if paired with a healthy diet, can produce results that will make you smile.

As always, I am keen to find motivating ways to workout and I have found one that is fun and easy to follow. Davina – 30 Day Fat Burn is the new dvd from Davina McCall and Ed Lumsden that I have been following for the past few weeks. Ed Lumsden has designed a bunch of workouts, each ten minutes long, that target fat burning. The guide, found inside the dvd cover, as well as on the dvd menu itself, is clear to follow and keeps your attention as it mixes up the workouts.

“They’re a series of workouts that have been specially designed by Ed to work in combination to basically maximize fat burn efficiently and quickly.” Davina

A queen of social media, Davina listened to her followers and has created this dvd with Ed, to focus on getting rid of fat and toning up… just what her followers have requested. Those familiar with Ed’s style, will find some old favourites as well as a few new routines that are easy to learn.

“We focused a little bit more on high intensity cardio rather than strength training this year.” Davina

The 30 Day Planner is clear to follow and helps to keep you on track.

Warm-Up and Workouts:

Warm-Up (7 minutes)

The warm-up is essential and easy to follow. Simple movements, such as arm swings and leg kicks helps mobility and loosens you up. It slowly gets your blood pumping and gets you warm.

“Make sure you warm-up.” Davina

Boxfit (10 minutes)

Jab-crosses, high kicks and squat punches all prove to raise your heart rate, with a smile on your face! Ed uses different levels and waist twists to ensure maximum impact.

Ultimate Fat Burner (10 minutes)

Exercises, such as cross leg lunges and plank burpees are sure to get your blood pumping! Davina is encouraging and smiles throughout!

HIIT Fat Burner (10 minutes with an optional 5 minute add-on)

This intense section is packed full of short exercise routines, such as fast feet, squat jump to burpee, hop jumps and more. With only 15 second breaks to catch your breath in-between each set, you sure are glowing at the end of your 10 minutes, or 15, if you are brave!

“Take things at your own pace… Miss a few repetitions, take a rest if you need to.” Davina

Strengh & Tone (10 minutes)

Dead lifts, slow and controlled bicep curls, push-ups without recovery and squats without a recovery all add up to an intense strengthening session! Grab your weights and go for it.

Buddy Workout (10 minutes)

New routines from Ed that you can do with anyone, almost! It’s always good to exercise with a buddy as they can be encouraging and fun! Press-up claps, jump over planks and pyramids all prove to be a fun filled session!

“Working out is a lot more fun when there’s two of you.” Davina

Abs (10 minutes)

Crunches, plank squeezes and reverse crunches all help to blast that belly fat away. I felt the burn and was always grateful for a rest day the following day!

Stretch (7 minutes)

I love this section. Though not always included on the planner, I did it every time I worked out as I think it’s important to stretch. I find it relaxing and it feels good.

Final Thoughts:

  • Ed gives clear instructions and offers advice where corrections might be made.
  • Davina is encouraging and smiles throughout.
  • I like that Davina makes a few mistakes and isn’t 100% polished. This shows that the dvd is not over-rehearsed. It feels natural, genuine and relatable.
  • I love her outfit changes – inspiration for workout wear!
  • As with any workout dvd, the dialogue and chatter (between Davina and Ed) can be predictive, so once I became familiar and secure with the routines, I played music in the background!
  • A second option for a warm-up would break the monotony of the same one every day.
