TRIED & TESTED: Bõl Pots

March 28, 2016 by Eliza Flynn Leave a Comment

Bõl was set-up in 2014 by ex-Innocent employee, Paul Brown, who found it hard to find good, quality food whilst he was commuting between Manchester and London. Realising that the tastiest food came from little food market stalls, he set about drawing upon these varied flavours and producing his own range of food pots, working with nutritionists such as Ian Marber (founder of the Food Doctor).

Bol Pot review

I’m not sure about you, but I literally can’t stop thinking about what my next meal will be. I love food. And I absolutely love food from around the world so I was excited to see that BOL had 8 pots available, including flavours such as Thai Coconut Curry, Keralan Coconut Chicken and Sri Lankan Lentil Sambar. I was sent two of their vegan and vegetarian options – the Singapore Noodles and the Mexican Sweet Potato Chilli.

Unfortunately for me, I also live with a rather hungry husband so it with some bad grace that I admit I agreed to share; sharing food is not my forte. Anyway.

Bol Pot reviewKnowing that Singapore Noodles is one of my favourites, the hungry husband allowed me to have that pot. It did require a fair bit of stirring once heated to mix everything well together but it did reveal a generous mix of red peppers and mushrooms. In the end, we shared our pots as we were too impatient to wait for them both to cook! Even though they only take a few minutes in the microwave, we were hungry and they’d arrived at the perfect time when we literally had nothing in our fridge.

Both our favourites were the Singapore Noodles – to us, it tasted the most authentic as the Mexican Sweet Potato Chilli did have a rather unsatisfying aftertaste. All in all,

Final Verdict

The Bõl pots were something we definitely appreciated having in the house when hungry, although we’d most likely try other flavours over the Mexican Sweet Potato Chili. However, I was impressed that they had vegan and vegetarian options, as well as a more meaty option for the carnivores. Definitely worth keeping a couple in the fridge for emergencies!
