TRIED & TESTED // Perkier Immune Booster Bars

January 21, 2021 by Lisa Thake Leave a Comment

Veganuary has become a regular calendar event each January, since 2014.  It is intended for people to pledge to try to be vegan for the month and boasts over a million followers since the start.

In turn, this has seen an increase in vegan products being more widely available on the market. To accompany the wealth of products there is also a wealth of information now available on veganism. The official Veganuary website is a good source of information for everything from getting started to nutrition and restaurant guides.

The timing of Veganuary in January means, for those of us in the UK, it is generally cold and wet. Health is of importance, during these winter months, ensuring we are protecting our bodies and strengthening our immune systems.

Perkier snack bars

Perkier are an independent British company with products being handmade – quite impressive for a company that is a team that consists of just four people! Not only are the products vegan but they are also gluten free and contain no palm oil.

They have a number of products in their range including their immune booster and active culture bars:

  • The active culture bars are marketed around gut health, containing prebiotic fibre, calcium and vitamins B5 and B12.
  • The immune booster bars are high protein and fibre, also containing vitamin C, D and B12. The salted caramel with dark chocolate is delicious (I may have to hide these from my husband and son)!

There is a lot of information on the Perkier website explaining the benefits of the ingredients in the products. The website has also been updated to include detail in relation to COVID and how vitamin D specifically is related to reducing the risks associated with the virus.

‘Upgrade your snacking’

I saw the phrase ‘upgrade your snacking’ on some marketing material and that was exactly what these bars are like. They are a treat and something I would purchase and eat in future! I am a bit of a self-confessed food snob and I like to know what is in my food. The good stuff and these bars tick this box for me.

If I was not already impressed by the product a little more about Perkier:

  • the company also donate to food banks and have a goal to donate 50,000 bars, already at 43,000!
  • packaging is recyclable
  • they are a partner with International Animal Rescue
  • the products came about as one of the founders, Ann, found she could no longer eat dairy, wheat or gluten. She wanted an alternative bar that was tasty and ethical. It is a product made for their target market by someone who falls into the same demographic
