TRIED & TESTED: LEVELSIX Studios

November 20, 2018 by Hannah Cox Leave a Comment

With Christmas approaching and the inevitable mayhem that it brings, I have been turning to wellness centres and classes, for that much needed sanctuary during this already chaotic season. I recently discovered LEVELSIX Studios, in Peckham Levels, offering yoga classes and treatments such as massage as well as a gem of a lunch spot in their wellness cafe. LEVELSIX Studios might just be the answer to clearing your cluttered mind and having some ‘you’ time, during the busiest time of the year.

Hidden down a side street, Peckham Levels, once a multi-story car park, has recently had a makeover and become a hub of activity. From artist studios, a hair-dressing salon, bars and restaurants… LEVELSIX Studios has a cool and spacious home. What was once a row of car parking spaces on level six, is now a bright and welcoming wellness centre offering yoga, treatments and a delicious lunch menu curtesy of Woody, their creative chef. Founded by four friends; Tania, Will, Ben and Woody, LEVELSIX Studios was formed to create a space for wellness…

“…a place for feeling good, eating well, and doing some great yoga and movement…” LEVELSIX Studios.

I signed up for a 12pm Vinyasa Flow class led by Carla Turner. This lunchtime spot is great, as you can practice yoga, then have a tasty and healthy lunch afterwards. Carla was a lovely teacher; her soft and encouraging voice led the class through a flow of movements, with alternative options for those who were more advanced as well as lesser complicated options for those that might be new to yoga. The class focused on breathe and movement, as Carla kept us gently moving and stretching, with poses such as shoulder stands or side twists. She moved around the class and adjusted where necessary and frequently encouraged us with positive observations from our practice. After the class, I felt both relaxed and rejuvenated.

After my class, I headed to the cafe for lunch. With a salad bar and two options for a hot meal, as well as their breakfast menu, I was spoilt for choice. So, rather than opting for my usual favourite, pancakes, I decided to have a mix of the salad items. Having recently learnt more about gut health at the Gut Stuff Tackles IBS event I attended, I knew that choosing the salad bar, with its variety and fermented food options, was the healthiest and smartest option.

My salad bowl from the cafe.

I was pleasantly surprised as the food was delicious and varied – not the obvious choices, such as mushrooms… instead my plate was filled with colourful roasted vegetables, salad, kimchi, beetroot, kale, tapenade on seeded homemade bread and plantains… yummy. Honestly, if there were no classes available, I would head here just for their lunch, I loved it.
