TRIED & TESTED // Love Yourself

October 19, 2020 by HelloFitty 1 Comment

Love Yourself is a meal-delivery service that prides itself on ‘Healthy. Food. Delivered’. All of their food is made with locally sourced, fresh, seasonal and unprocessed ingredients. It is delivered daily to your doorstep. Love Yourself Meals are developed by leading London dietitians with you and your dietary requirements in mind. Healthy Living London writer, Sophie Kay, enjoyed a two day trial of Love Yourself meals.

You can choose from a wide variety of dietary requirements including vegetarian, keto, pescatarian and gluten free. You can also choose your calories from 1,200, 1,500, 2,000 or 2,500. I went for the pescatarian diet at 1,500 calories as I’m trying to reduce the amount of meat I’m eating.

Day 1

The food is delivered each evening for the next day and the delivery window is 5:30pm-10pm. My bag of food was delivered at 6:40pm the night before my plan started. This wasn’t the most convenient of times as it was right in the middle of bath and bedtime for the kids. I prefer the delivery method of other meal delivery services I’ve tried where you provide a safe space for the drop off and the food is guaranteed a delivery by 5am each day.

My food on day 1 was all vegetarian. It included some inventive dishes like tofu meatballs in a smoky tomato sauce. There was also a delicious snack of banana and apple loaf with yogurt. I eat mostly vegetarian food at home but I was expecting a portion of fish each day in the pescatarian diet plan. Luckily on day 2 I got 2 portions of fish!

The food didn’t look great to be honest but the flavours were amazing. It was all fresh and very tasty. The only exception was the ‘chilled green soup’ afternoon snack, which was a green juice, but that’s maybe just personal taste! I supplemented the day’s food with a few extra bits like an added slice of toast. I’m breastfeeding and 1,500 calories wouldn’t have been quite enough. The dinner in particular was a salad with some cheese, which felt a bit small to go to bed on. I could have switched round the lunch and dinner to have something hot and more substantial for dinner.

Day 2

The food was delivered just before 6pm for day 2. This really helped as I could get it into the fridge before I went upstairs for bath time.

Breakfast was a delicious and filling pea frittata. I washed it down with a pina colada smoothie, which contained added ingredients like turmeric and avocado.

It was a busy morning but I didn’t think about food once until lunchtime. For lunch I tucked into a delicious salmon fillet with pasta, pesto and walnuts. It was labelled as a cauliflower cheese and salmon fillet but there was definitely no cauliflower in there! Not a problem though as who doesn’t love pasta?!

Dinner was a mackerel salad that I added some extra beans to and I went to bed with a full and nourished belly.

Final Thoughts

Overall I was really impressed with the flavours and freshness of the food as well as the innovative flavours (those tofu meatballs really were exceptional!). It was brilliant to be able to open the fridge and grab my food when running around after the kids without having to think about what to make.

If I was counting calories it would also be useful to know that you don’t need to measure anything. It would be good to be able to enter your own calorie constraint or for them to offer a couple of additional options, for example 1,750.

Would I buy this?

If I didn’t love cooking and didn’t cook for the family as much then I would definitely buy this as an easy way to make sure I’m not over or undereating during a busy day with the kids. I also really like the fact that all of their packaging (including the plastic film) is biodegradable and composts in 90 days.

More Information

Prices start from £15 for one day of the Mini Diet. The Pescatarian Diet option that I chose starts from £25 per day. You can choose to try 1 day, 5 days or 6 days, or go for a 4 or 8 week subscription for 5 or 6 days in each week. They deliver in central and Greater London, I live in Hertfordshire and they delivered to me.
